We first ate here with our "balikbayans" just last year and here we are again finding ourselves going back to the same place where we enjoyed eating one of the famous meals in the city. Well, I don't know if it's an official thing there but most of the people we know who live there recommend this place as one of the musts when you visit Baguio.
lomo ribs (half salb) |
Canto Bogchi Joint or famously known simply as "Canto" is located at 25 Kisad road, Baguio City. If we look at Google Maps, the joint is near the intersection of Kissad road, Jose Abad Santos Drive, and M.H. Del Pilar street. For landmark references, it is just pretty much at the border of the Burnham area beside the Baguio City public library and the Burnham park office.

The place is elevated so its quite easy to spot if you are in the vicinity. They have a number of parking spaces in front but don't be fooled as most of the time its full especially on lunch and dinner times. As a matter of fact, we arrived early dinner at that time and we were put in a queue for the next available parking slot (just like what happened last year).

As per my observation, most people who go and check the place are really willing to wait even though there are other options nearby.. It seems they really intended the place which says something great about this joint. If you are blessed enough, you won't find another queue before going inside the establishment and being assisted to a table which usually happens (near yet so far, lol).
I find the ambiance of the place very simple. I like the high ceiling part of the place since the other half of the dining area is elevated and I also like how transparent the establishment is.. It makes the joint feel more spacious even in a full house.Â
Inside Canto |
They actually serve a variety of food here.. But of course, their ribs are still the most recommendable item to date (especially for the first-timer). In reference to the first photo, that half slab is worth P310 which is already a generous amount of serving for one person - a reasonable price compared to the norm. What stands out about it is its texture and taste. Everything is superb from its tenderness, color, and up to its temperature. The meat slides through the bones and there is no part that is not delicious (lol). Are you hungry now? Haha!
I captured their menu and I hope this helps you have a great experience when you get to visit them soon.

Great place to visit and looks like their food doesn't disappoint and looks very delicious.
ReplyDeleteWait til you taste it first hand. ;)
DeleteI MUST visit this place the next time I am in Baguio City. When my husband is well enough to travel, we will travel north and enjoy the delicious food this restaurant has to offer.
ReplyDeleteYes! A must if you really haven't tried them yet.
DeleteThose ribs ere cocked with perfection,I could see it from the texture.I don't eat so much meat anymore but you had me at the "sweet tooth",can't say no to that!
ReplyDeleteI am always watching what I eat so this was an exemption haha!
DeleteI've never been to Baguio City but I am going to bookmark it. I also love the sound of this menu, especially the grilled chicken on buttered rice....mmmhhhhmmmm I gotta try that!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to that time Jade!
DeleteMy family owns Canto Bogchi Joint. It started, as a small business, my cousin's Carlo and Dimps built right from their kitchen and it's become one of Baguio's finest. Next time you decide to entertain balikbayans (and you're a large group), let me know. They have an exclusive area for family and friends, just at the back of the main resto, where you can host a private party.
ReplyDeleteThe place is nice and cozy, with the perfect retro vibe. Carlo and Dimps usually facilitate the service in the VIP area too, so you get to meet the heart of Canto.
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the food and thank you for this review. I will link this to my cousins.
Are you serious? I am like mind-blown right now. Small world! WOW!
DeleteHehe. Like seriously. I'm sure you will love Canto even more if you dine at the VIP lounge. We took our balikbayans there 2 months ago, they felt absolutely special.
DeleteHow to avail of that?
DeleteIt is always nice to go and eat out. A great way to catch up with friends for sure. Looks like you had a great time
ReplyDeleteWe did!
